Mix//Sync in Chrome and Safari
Mix//Sync runs in Chrome or Safari on a laptop or desktop computer, with nothing to install. The main difference between the two is how each one lets Mix//Sync reach your music. Here's what to expect in each.
In Chrome
- Press Add my music, then Choose a folder…, and pick the folder your music lives in. A card shows how many new tracks it found: Import all, Choose which, or Skip.
- Chrome keeps the folder connected. When you add music to it later, open Add my music and press Check for new music.
- After a restart, Chrome may need one click to open your music again. Press Grant access at the top of the library.
- AIFF and Apple Lossless (ALAC) files don't play in Chrome yet.
In Safari
- In an empty library, press Choose your music folder, or drop tracks onto the library. A folder you pick gets the same card: Import all, Choose which, or Skip.
- Safari doesn't let a site keep a folder connected between visits. So Mix//Sync keeps a copy of each track you add on this computer, and next time your tracks are there without a click.
- Music you add to the folder later needs one more pick.
- Tracks stored in iCloud that aren't downloaded to your Mac show as not downloaded. Download them in the Music app or in Finder, then add your music again.
- In Private Browsing, a line says that recordings and your library won't be kept when the tab closes. You can still mix. Download any take you want to keep before you close it.
Your Rekordbox collection
Rekordbox's XML export works in both. In Safari, after you connect the file, choose the folder your music lives in, so Mix//Sync can find each track on this computer. Get your Rekordbox library ready covers what to check before you export.
In both
Your files are read on your computer and never uploaded. When you mix with a friend, only the sound of your decks travels.
On a phone
Mixing needs a laptop or desktop. Open a Mix//Sync link on a phone and you get a page saying so, with a Copy the link button, so you can open the same link on your computer.
